ABC Cancels ‘Agent Carter,’ ‘Castle,’ and ‘The Muppets’

The night of the long knives came early at ABC this year. The network has canceled Agent Carter, The Muppets, and even the long-time fan favorite series Castle!

TVLine was one of the first outlets to report the news that Marvel’s Agent Carter will not be coming back for season 3. Although Agent Carter was well received by critics, it was one of ABC’s lowest rated series. To complicate matters, Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell was signed to headline a new ABC legal drama, Conviction a few months ago. Conviction will be going forward as a series, but Agent Carter’s work is done…barring some unforeseen miracle pickup from another network.

Castle’s conclusion was the big surprise here, as ABC was positioning the series to go forward without the female lead, Stana Katic. That move did not go over well at all with Castle’s fans, which led to a backlash against the series even though Nathan Fillion, Jon Huertas, and Seamus Dever had all signed deals to return for the ninth season.

Sadly, the fate of The Muppets was much less shocking. The Muppets had struggled creatively and in the ratings throughout its freshman year. New showrunner Kristin Newman was able to bring some added life to The Muppets at midseason, but it wasn’t enough to save the show. Now, Disney is just going to have to figure out some other way to utilize its Muppets.

Which of these three ABC series will you miss the most next season? And which shows deserve another chance to continue? Let us know in the comment section below!
