Seth MacFarlane Will Create and Star In New Sci-fi TV Series on Fox

When it comes to Fox, it’s Seth MacFarlane’s world. Everyone else is just visiting.

Deadline is reporting that MacFarlane has just closed a straight-to-series deal with Fox for his first ever leading role in a live-action sci-fi series, which MacFarlane created on spec. Fox has committed to a 13 episode first season of MacFarlane’s currently untitled show, which will take place on a starship called The Orville 300 years in the future. MacFarlane will play one of the crew members who will face “cosmic challenges from without and within” as he and his companions “boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.”

“I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid, and the timing finally feels right,” said MacFarlane in a statement. “20th and Fox have been good to me for many years, and of course, Dana [Walden] and Gary [Newman] have been fantastic bosses and true pals, so it was a no-brainer to come to them with the project. I think this is gonna be something special.”

For Fox, MacFarlane has created Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, and executive produced Bordertown. MacFarlane has also written, directed, and starred in the two Ted movies as well as A Million Ways to Die in the West.

At the moment, the schedule calls for MacFarlane to film the pilot episode later this year and finish the remaining 12 episodes in spring 2017. That means that the earliest MacFarlane’s new show will arrive is on Fox’s 2017 to 2018 TV schedule.
