UFC fans don’t know what to think after one of the sport’s biggest stars blindsided them with a retirement announcement over Twitter Tuesday.
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor posted this on Twitter, setting off the alarms, many thinking it was a joke.
McGregor was supposed to face Nate Diaz at UFC 200 this summer in what would have been a re-match between the two fighters. Diaz fans immediately started mocking McGregor on social media, stating he’s too afraid to get back into the Octagon.
Diaz responded with this tweet:
UFC’s Dana White said McGregor was pulled from UFC 200 before the fighter’s ‘announcement’ because he failed to show up for promotional events. So this may be just a huge temper-tantrum.
However, some believe this McGregor retirement could be real and that we should have seen this coming a mile away.
In the grand scheme of things, and as of right now, we’re talking about tweets. Take them with a grain of salt.
