Craig Ferguson Explains Groundhog Day: ‘A Movie About Addiction’

By now, Groundhog Day has become such an established comedy classic that just about everybody seems to have seen it. But have you ever really thought about it? It’s more than just a high-concept comedy about Bill Murray reliving the same day over and over and over again. Groundhog Day is also a film about addiction.

That’s what Craig Ferguson says in this exclusive clip from Tribeca Shortlist, a digital streaming service that lets artists curate the movies you watch. A respected comedian and host of the award-winning Late Late Show, Craig Ferguson has scheduled a series of films called “It’s a Mad World” on the service and is revealing in videos why they are so important to him. One of the films is Groundhog Day, and it’s a film he saw when he got out of rehab, so the idea of living the same day on repeat until you get your life together really resonated with him.

We’ll let Craig Ferguson put it in his words:

Head over to Tribeca Shortlist to watch more curated films. (You can start the service on a free trial and after that, it’s only $4.99 a month.) Previous artists who have curated programming on Tribeca Shortlist include Alec Baldwin and Tyler Perry. Craig Ferguson’s programming begins on March 1, 2016.
