Newtown has really gone to the dogs. The inner-western Sydney suburb is about to get packed out by pooches, thanks to a new festival weekender offering plenty of fun for our four-legged friends.
One of Newtonia’s liveliest cafes, Cuckoo Callay, is throwing a special canine-centric event called ‘A Dog Day Afternoon’, which encourages punters to bring their fur babies out for two days of entertainment, done doggy-style.
The main event will be Cuckoo’s Doggy Dress Up Parade, where 15 bowwows will duke it out for a share in$1,500 worth of prizes by strutting their stuff on the catdogwalk and competing for the crown of Newtown’s Next Top Dog.
Registrations for the puppy fashion parade are now open via the cafe’s Facebook page. And that’s not all, there’ll also be doggy treats, “puppacinos” and even a doggy day spa at the venue, located right near Newtown train station.
As for the humans, there’ll be plenty to entertain them as well, including gourmet hot dogs, glasses of bubbly and appearances by fellow animal-loving bipeds like stand-up comedian Scotty Dettrick and Member for Newtown, Jenny Leong.
The festival, which is being held to raise money for the RSPCA, will take place across Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November, with the venue promising the “paw-fect weekend”.
