A few days after it was announced that Virtual Reality, that buzzword of the 1990s, may very well experience another boom in the coming years, Samsung announced that they will be selling, right now, an affordable, video game compatible VR headset called the Gear VR. It will only weight 280 grams, and will offer a 96° viewing display. It will, of course, only be compatible to use with other Samsung portable devices, and only the Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 edge, S6 and Note5 at that.

The going retail price on the Gear VR is a mere $99, which is dirt cheap in the cutting edge technology world. In the 1990s, people seemed less amenable to plugging their faces into VR technology, as it was 1) kind of creepy, and 2) not very well put-together yet (I don’t need to bring up Nintendo’s Virtual Boy, do I?). But, thanks to Samsung, and a suddenly very vocal group of VR-interested investors, the future of manufactured may finally actually be here.
