The Walking Dead has proven to be AMC’s most valuable franchise. From the comic book series co-created by Robert Kirkman, AMC has launched two TV series to blockbuster ratings. Next year, AMC is revisiting the comic book realm with Preacher, and adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s acclaimed Vertigo comic book series.
Today, AMC announced that Preacher will premiere on the network in May 2016. A more specific premiere date hasn’t been tied down yet, but this means that Preacher will likely run through the summer of 2016.
On twitter, Preacher executive producer Seth Rogen shared the first poster for the series, which features a church turned upside down.
Dominic Cooper stars in the series as Jesse Custer, a small town preacher in Texas who becomes imbued with “the word of God” after he is accidentally merged with the offspring of an angel and a demon. Now given the ability to command almost anyone in creation, Jesse sets out to literally find God alongside his best friends: his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and the vampire known as Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).

Ian Colletti also stars in Preacher as the disfigured young man who is nicknamed Arseface, with W. Earl Brown as Sheriff Hugo Root, Lucy Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, and Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon.
The Preacher comic book series was wildly over-the-top with its depiction of violence and sexuality as well as its controversial take on religious figures. It remains to be seen just how far the Preacher TV series will embrace those themes,
Breaking Bad veteran Sam Catlin wrote the pilot episode of Preacher and he will be the showrunner of the series. Catlin will also executive produce Preacher alongside Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
