Virgin Mobile has upped their offering to customers, becoming the first Australian telco to allow postpaid customers to roll unused data over into the next month.
Previously, any data that remained unused at the end of the billing cycle would be forfeited by the customer. This is still the case with other Australian postpaid plans.
Virgin Mobile CEO David Scribner said, “Although less than one in five of our customers use all their data in any given month, many customers are ‘occasional breakers’ and over a six-month period, around 40 per cent will break their data limits at least once. We looked into it and discovered that almost half of these people would have paid nothing or at least reduced excess charges if they had Data Rollover.”
Under Virgin’s plan, any data left unused at the end of the month will be added to a customer’s data for the following month. Once the customer uses the next month’s data, they can start on the previous month’s. Data will only roll over for one month, so don’t think you’ll be able to hoard it for the busy periods of your life.
While data rollover has been available on some telco’s pre-paid plans if customers purchase extra data, this is the first plan to allow postpaid customers to roll over unused data. Virgin has allowed rollover of calls and text messaging since 2011.
Customers who want to take advantage of the plan will need to sign up for a new contract, or pay extra to have the feature added to their existing plan.
