Yesterday, widespread reports named Krysten Ritter as the star of Marvel’s upcoming “Jessica Jones” series on Netflix. Today, Marvel went ahead and made it official.
In a story posted on Marvel.com, Marvel and Netflix announced that Ritter will play Jessica Jones. However, the “Jessica Jones” series will now be called “AKA Jessica Jones,” which it was called back when it spent several years in development at ABC.
“AKA Jessica Jones” is based on the comic book series, Alias as created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. As in the comic, Jessica Jones is a former superheroine whose career in costume came to a tragic end. In the present, Jessica rebuilds her life and works as a private detective while getting pulled back into the underbelly of the superhero world.
Ritter was the star of the ABC sitcom “Don’t Trust The B—-” and she had a memorable dramatic role in the second season of “Breaking Bad.”

As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”
Although Marvel and Netflix went public with Ritter’s cast, there is still no official word on whether Mike Colter (“The Following”) has gotten the coveted role of Luke Cage as reported yesterday.
The Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be the showrunner and executive producer of “AKA Jessica Jones.” Production of the series is expected to begin next year with a Netflix debut confirmed for 2015.
