Earlier this week, Thandie Newton’s DirecTV original series “Rogue” was renewed for twenty additional episodes to be spread across two seasons. But Newton has just added another TV project to her schedule.
Deadline is reporting that Newton has signed a deal with HBO to co-star in the upcoming “Westworld” pilot” as Maeve Millay, “the beautiful and razor-sharp… Westworld madame whose seen-it-all-before worldview is about to be truly challenged.” It’s unusual for a leading actress or actor to be on two TV series simultaneously, which probably means that Newton’s role on “Westworld” won’t interfere with her “Rogue” schedule.
Prior to her starring turn on “Rogue,” Newton appeared in Mission: Impossible II, Beloved, The Chronicles of Riddick, Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness and Good Deeds.
Based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film Westworld, the new adaptation is set to explore “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are writing the “Westworld” pilot and executive producing the potential series with J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk.

The “Westworld” creative team has already lined up one of the more impressive TV casts in recent memory, with Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Jeffrey Wright and Ed Harris all signed for leading roles on the series. The supporting cast includes Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan, Simon Quarterman, Eddie Rouse, Demetrius Grosse, Kyle Bornheimer, Currie Graham, Lena Georgas, Steven Ogg and Timothy Lee DePriest.
HBO has not yet announced a start date for the “Westworld” pilot.
