Game Developer Salaries Revealed in New Survey

Gamasutra has revealed the average salaries of a number of professions within the gaming industry, after releasing the results of its annual Game Developer Salary Survey.

The results, accumulated in 2013, highlight the amount of money the average developer is expected to make depending upon their role within the company, as long as providing statistics for international developers’ earning along with indie devs.

Here’s the breakdown of average US salaries per discipline: 

  • Programmers: $93,251
  • Artists and animators: $74,349
  • Game designers: $73,864
  • Producers: $82,286
  • Audio professionals: $95,682
  • Quality Assurance: $54,833
  • Business and management: $101,572

The average game developer’s salary in the US is $83,060, down 2% from 2012, while Canadian devs earn on average $71,000, a 9% increase, and European devs $46,000.

Gamasutra also revealed that solo independent developers earn on average $11,812, marking a huge 49% decrease from 2012, while the earnings of indie development teams increased by 161% with annual earnings of $50,833.
