Last month, Hulu emerged as the only serious player to revive “Community” for a sixth season. However, it looks like Sony TV will need to find a new partner to save “Community.”
TVLine is reporting that Hulu has abandoned negotiations to produce “Community” Season 6. This is a severe blow to “Community’s” chances for a revival, as Hulu has the streaming rights to the first five seasons and the actors’ contracts will be up at the end of June.

However, Sony doesn’t appear to be ready to throw in the towel. According to TVLine, someone close to the show said “Sony does not give up easily. A lot can happen in one week.”
Without Hulu in the mix, there are two plausible scenarios that could bring “Community” back. Sony TV could conceivably strike a deal with Comedy Central, which has the cable syndication rights for “Community.” The problem with that is that Comedy Central hasn’t publicly shown any interest in running the sixth season of “Community.” It would probably take a sweetheart deal to convince Comedy Central to rethink that.
The other possibility is that Sony could decide to produce “Community” Season 6 by itself and distribute it through the Playstation network or Crackle. If I had to guess, I think this scenario is more likely.
Either way, “Community’s” fate will be decided by June 30.
