When you have a game that can drive in huge amounts of money from updates online, sometimes there needn’t be a sequel. That’s the case with League of Legends, developer Riot Games has stated, revealing that there will never be a League of Legends 2.

Speaking to Polygon, senior environment artist Brent Critchfield said: “I want my great grand-children playing this game.” The MOBA is currently one of the most popular games in the world, and has had a huge hand in the continued rise of eSports since its release in 2009.
Considering that League of Legends in its current form has almost perfected the MOBA format, it’s perhaps no surprise that a sequel will not be released. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t expect a brand new IP from Riot Games in the future, though.
