The Man Without Fear has found his greatest adversary.
Marvel and Netflix have jointly announced that Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast as Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin in “Daredevil.” D’Onofrio will appear opposite former “Boardwalk Empire” star Charlie Cox, who was cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil last month.
D’Onofrio is best known for his long stint on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” as Detective Robert Goren. D’Onofrio has also appeared in “Homicide,” “Miami Vice,” Men In Black, Full Metal Jacket and the upcoming Jurassic World.
The late Michael Clarke Duncan previously played Wilson Fisk in the 2003 Daredevil feature film. The description of Fisk from the “Daredevil” series calls him “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.”
Marvel’s Head of TV, Jeph Loeb said that “We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role. Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.”
With Daredevil and Wilson Fisk cast, there will likely be announcements coming soon regarding the other characters in the supporting cast. Although Marvel has yet to confirm which characters will appear in the “Daredevil” series, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, Elektra and Bullseye seem like safe bets.
The “Daredevil” series will begin filming next month in New York before all 13 episodes are released by Netflix in 2015.
