Facebook’s “Nearby Friends” Feature is Great News for Creepers

Facebook has released a new ‘Nearby Friends’ feature, and we’re not sure who would use it other than creepers/stalkers.

The opt-in feature allows your friends to know how close/far away they are from you at all times. The feature doesn’t broadcast your exact location, however, and instead lets you and your friends know your proximity to one another. If a friend is close to you, you can inform them by Pinging them with a message along the lines of “Hi Sarah, I’m right behind you. You smell nice. What perfume are you wearing today?”

The feature can be found under the ‘More’ section of the iOS and Android Facebook app, and requires your permission in order to broadcast your location. You can also select whether you want to broadcast your location to certain people within your friends list, or all of your friends.

The feature will display users’ distance from one another in increments of a mile, and will also give timestamps of when each person was in a location, and when that location was queried.

Below is a video from Facebook explaining how the new feature works.
