New Deathlok Ongoing Series Coming After Original Sin

During yesterday’s Original Sins announcement, there was some confusion as to whether Marvel had revealed a new Deathlok series or if the character was just being featured in an anthology miniseries.

It turns out that both things are true.

Via Comic Book Resources, Marvel has confirmed that a Deathlok ongoing series will be one of the five titles spilling out of the Original Sin event. However, there is currently no creative team announced for “Deathlok.” Although writer Nathan Edmondson and artist Mike Perkins are handling the Deathlok story in Original Sins.

Current viewers of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” may know Deathlok as Mike Peterson, but the Deathlok featured in the new comic will be Michael Collins, the second Deathlok who was introduced in 1990. The Collins incarnation of Deathlok also had his own ongoing title in the late ‘90s; which was the only previous time that Deathlok was headlining a monthly book of his own.

There have been several previous versions of Deathlok, but the original concept was created by Rich Buckler and Doug Moench in 1974. A newer version of Deathlok made his debut in the X-Men related titles, but the Michael Collins Deathlok hasn’t appeared since the late Dwayne McDuffie’s Fantastic Four run in 2007.

Deathlok’s story in Original Sins will reportedly serve as a “pilot episode” for the new series as it establishes where Michael Collins has been for the past few years.
