Australia’s premier rock, metal and punk festival Soundwave has forfeited a significant bond after breaking noise restrictions during February’s stop in Adelaide.
The annual festival lost a $10,000 bond to the city’s council for breaching noise levels for the majority of the Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold-led day.
Featuring some 90 bands and a lineup of international stars, Soundwave will pay for going a little too hard.
The Adelaide City Council monitored the five Soundwave stages and claimed that the festival eclipsed the limit of 110 decibels for up to 70% of the event.
According to the ABC, the city is considering upping the bond to ensure nearby residents are not affected again in 2015, however Soundwave may call off Adelaide altogether.
Promoter AJ Maddah has already confirmed Soundwave and Big Day Out will no longer bother with Perth as the lone West Coast date and may scrap Adelaide as well to cut down on costs that annually exceed $50 million in order to run the festival.
The Perth decision was made in part due to poor tickets sales, but also the many disputes Maddah ran into with local and State governments, possibly leading to just an East Coast tour as we saw from the Vans Warped Tour’s recent return to Oz.
It’s not all bad news- Maddah will make a surprise announcement featuring some better news in the coming weeks and recently threw a number of names into contention for the 2015 lineup, including Disturbed, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Social Distortion, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Opeth and Lamb Of God.
