Eurovision 2014 To Feature Australia

Eurovision 2014 has added Australia to its 2014 lineup.

The strange appeal of the Eurovision song contest draws 100s of millions of television viewers in from around the world on an annual basis, mixing a formula featuring large doses of the whacky and over-the-top with just enough talent to attract massive audiences each and every time.

2014 will see the competition bend the rules to enable Australia a one-off appearance to mark the 30th anniversary of the song contest’s broadcast Down Under.

In the mix amongst the legions of often awkward Euro-pop stars will be the ARIA award-winning Jessica Mauboy, becoming the first official Aussie representative at Eurovision (Olivia Newton-John sung ‘Long Live Love’ for the UK in 1974).

Mauboy is teaming up with The Potbelleez’s Ilan Kidron for a single that will be “big and spectacular… and involve a lot of humour”, the secret recipe that will likely enable the 24-year-old to slide in unnoticed alongside a lineup headlined apparently by Austria’s Conchita Wurst.

“The song speaks of ancient dreaming but I also wanted to convey a message that whatever country you represent, you have to bring that culture to the next generation,” Mauboy told news.com.au.

“Every time I listen to it I get another layer of goosebumps, so introducing it to the world is going to be so powerful.”

Eurovision 2014 will be viewed by some 180 million people worldwide. The first semi-final in May 9, the second May 10 and the grand final May 11.
