This Tech Squib wonders where you are while your camera is clicking away remotely.
The Smart Trigger from Satechi is a Bluetooth device that remotely controls your DSLR camera via a smartphone or tablet. A downloadable free app completes the team, allowing a photographer to take shots without physical contact with the camera — as long as he or she is in Bluetooth range (about 50 feet).
The Smart Trigger is perfect for setting up remote or time lapse shots where a distant click on app is easier than hovering over the camera. It’s also useful for old-fashioned selfies if you want to use DSLR for photos of yourself.
For it’s $45 price tag, the only weakness is the app paired with the device. It offers no remote view finder, so — while you can operate shutter controls remotely — you can’t see what the camera is looking at via the app. That makes setting up the camera in the first place all-important.
