The CW Renews ‘Arrow,’ ‘Supernatural’ & ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Since its debut, “Arrow” has been the biggest hit on The CW. Unsurprisingly, this means that “Arrow” will be back for a third season in Fall 2014.

The CW has given early renewals to “Arrow,” “Supernatural,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals” and “Reign.” Spinoffs from both “Arrow” and “Supernatural” are also likely to be on the schedule for next season, in the form of “The Flash” and “Supernatural: Tribes.”

As the lone surviving show from The WB, “Supernatural” will match the 10 season run of “Smallville.” But it’s more likely than ever that the tenth season will be the end of “Supernatural,” barring something unforeseen. It’s very rare for a drama to run ten seasons, much less eleven or more.

“The Originals” and “Reign” are the only two freshmen dramas to earn a renewal so far. That leaves “The Tomorrow People,” “Hart of Dixie,” “The Carrie Diaries” and “Beauty & The Beast” on the bubble for The CW. If the upcoming dramas, “Star-Crossed” and “The 100” perform well for The CW, then the chances of some of its bubble shows will greatly diminish. Alternatively, those shows may find new life if the latest dramas fail to bring in an audience.

The CW will announce its full lineup for the Fall 2014 season in May.
