Jonathan Banks Returns For ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel ‘Better Call Saul’

Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut was one of the breakout characters on “Breaking Bad” during his two and a half seasons on the show. Mike’s ultimate fate was also one of the most powerful moments in the series.

While Banks is currently recurring as Professor Buzz Hickey on “Community,” his days as Mike aren’t over yet. According to Deadline, Banks has become the second actor to join the upcoming “Breaking Bad” spinoff prequel series, “Better Call Saul.” Bob Odenkirk had previously been signed to reprise his role as Saul Goodman, the “criminal lawyer” in the years before he met Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

In his initial appearances on “Breaking Bad,” Mike appeared to be one of Saul’s top enforcers. However, later episodes revealed that Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) was Mike’s true employer. Prior to becoming a criminal, Mike served as a police officer in Philadelphia.

Outside of his “Breaking Bad” role, Banks is best known for his Emmy-nominated stint on Wiseguy.” Banks has also made numerous guest appearances on TV in “Highlander: The Series,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “ER,” “Castle,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Modern Family” and “Vegas.”

It’s not clear if Banks would be available to reprise his role as Buzz if “Community” gets a sixth season.

“Better Call Saul” will premiere on AMC in November 2014.
