Bill Paxton Enlists In ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

There’s a new addition coming to Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “ in just a few weeks, and he’s portrayed by a very familiar face.

TV Guide is reporting that Bill Paxton has signed on to appear in at least four episodes of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “ as Agent John Garrett, a character who made his first appearance in 1985’s Elektra: Assassin miniseries by Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz. Garrett has subsequently appeared in Secret Warriors and Daredevil.

While the comic book incarnation of Garrett became a cyborg, the TV version is apparently a flesh and blood human being. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “ executive producer Jed Whedon explained that “We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.”

Whedon added that Garrett will “[come] into the fold in a very surprising way,” before teaming up with Agents Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) and Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen). Whedon went on to describe Garrett as “the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets… When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and [he] doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Although Paxton starred in HBO’s “Big Love,” he is best known for appearing in several iconic films including Weird Science, Aliens, Apollo 13, Near Dark, Twister, Titanic and True Lies.  Paxton also starred in the Hatfields & McCoys miniseries on History.

Paxton’s first episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is expected to premiere in late February or early March.
