Xbox One Unlikely to Support Twitch Streaming for a “Few More Months”

Streaming has been extremely prosperous for Sony and its PS4 since its launch in November, with Twitch even stating that 20% of its users are PS4 owners. Meanwhile, Xbox One has disappointed its fanbase by delaying its integration of game streaming. Although it was only supposed to be a short wait, it might be quite a bit longer before Xbox catches up with the streaming world.

The official Twitch Support Twitter account has posted the following update in regards to Twitch’s addition to the Xbox One software lineup:

Xbox One Direct Broadcasting: There is no ETA at this time from Microsoft. Expect a few more months. If we know sooner, we’ll update.

There’s currently a Twitch app available on the Xbox One, but it does nothing more than allow you to watch streams. Many features are unavailable, most notably streaming console footage of your own.

This all comes off as a little bizarre given Microsoft announced its support of Twitch for Xbox One before Sony ever did. I had a bad feeling when a delay was announced in early November. Now, it feels like we might have to wait until Summer before we can stream games like Forza Motorsport 5 and Dead Rising 3 to our friends. By then, Titanfall will be the hot product.

Microsoft has a massive update planned for Xbox One that includes important improvements. Streaming will not be one of those improvements.
