Theo Walcott will miss the World Cup 2014 after a knee injury he suffered during last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Tottenham.
Walcott will miss the rest of Arsenal’s Premier League season after looking at an expected six-month absence from football. The winger was taken off the pitch in a stretcher after damaging his knee while going in for a tackle in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against their rivals.
A statement released by the club said: “After coming off injured in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, the club regrettably announces that Theo Walcott has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.
“Theo will have surgery in London in the near future and is expected to be out for at least six months, therefore missing the remainder of the season and the World Cup in Brazil in the summer.”
The 24-year-old also avoided being reprimanded by the FA following the game, after gesturing to Tottenham fans whilst being carried off in the stretcher. The FA confirmed that he would not face any disciplinary action.
