Back in 2010, “Rubicon” had the dubious distinction of being the only AMC original series to be canceled after a single season. Now there are two.
AMC has officially canceled “Low Winter Sun” following its ten episode run last summer. “Low Winter Sun” was adapted from a British miniseries of the same name, with Mark Strong reprising his role from the original alongside Lennie James.
“Low Winter Sun” was given the coveted post “Breaking Bad” timeslot during its final season, but “Low Winter Sun” failed to retain the audience from AMC’s flagship series. On the bright side, maybe this means that James can once again reprise his role as Morgan on “The Walking Dead.”
Netflix recently rode to the rescue of “The Killing” after AMC canceled it for the second time. However, “Low Winter Sun” doesn’t appear to have the fanbase that “The Killing” enjoys nor the critical heat attached to the leading performers of that show.
With the recent end of “Breaking Bad” and the final season of “Mad Men” approaching, AMC has two new series slated for 2014: the Revolutionary War drama “Turn” and “Halt and Catch Fire,” a Silicon Valley drama set in the ‘80s. Beyond that, AMC has “The Walking Dead” spinoff/companion series and “Better Call Saul,” the “Breaking Bad” spinoff.
