For those worried that the outspoken Lily Allen had sealed her lips shut after that dreadful cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, the singer has now revealed the video for her comeback single ‘Hard Out Here’ which addresses sexism in the pop music industry. Suffice to say, in its own way, it’s great.
Beginning with her having her post-pregnancy weight surgically removed in order for her to continue her music career, the video sees Lily Allen parodying Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’, along with gratuitous shots of her backing dancers twerking in a nod to the ongoing frenzy surrounding Miley Cyrus. The chorus repeats “It’s hard out here for a bitch,” and with all the tabloid attention she’s received over the years, she’s definitely an expert on the trials and tribulations faced by women in pop music.
