“Sleepy Hollow” has been one of the biggest surprise hits of this fall TV season. And after only three episodes have aired, Fox has already committed to another season
Fox formally announced that “Sleepy Hollow” is getting a second season of at least 13 episodes earlier this morning. The twist is that “Sleepy Hollow” had been rumored to get a “back 9” order to fill out the traditional full season of 22 episodes. However, the 13th episode of “Sleepy Hollow” will remain the first season finale and the series will return next year.
In a brief statement, Fox’s Kevin Reilly said “The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking — it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast.”
By holding off on new episodes of “Sleepy Hollow” rather than adding more installments to the first season, Fox appears to be embracing the cable model of shorter seasons. “The Following” Season 2 will take over “Sleepy Hollow’s” Monday 9pm time slot in January.
“Sleepy Hollow” co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be back for the second season, along with executive producer Mark Goffman.
The second season of “Sleepy Hollow” will likely debut in Fall 2014.
