For months, Robert Kirkman and new showrunner Scott M. Gimple have been teasing a new threat this season on “The Walking Dead.” Something that is neither human nor walker. A threat that can’t simply be stabbed to death or easily dealt with.
So far, the two most popular theories have been disease and ideological conflicts between the survivors at the prison led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the remnants of Woodbury whom Rick took into the prison during the season three finale.
AMC has released a new teaser for “The Walking Dead” Season 4 which strongly hints that the new threat is human based. In the brief scenes, we see Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) defending one the cell blocks against a walker incursion. And Rick’s theory appears to be that someone attacked the cell block to allow the walkers to get inside.
Does that mean that The Governor (David Morrissey) is already striking back at the survivors? Or is their true enemy already on the inside with them?
“The Walking Dead” Season 4 returns to AMC on Sunday, October 13.
