The Assassin’s Creed series has remained notorious for its violence and mild sexuality. However, with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag the in game content has pushed some boundaries.
With the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s reveal of Assasssin’s Creed IV: Black Flag‘s ‘Mature’ rating, released yesterday, it turns out that in Black Flag the blood will be much more prominent, and not only that, but you will be able to see the spray as you decapitate your enemies. The sexual content isn’t as hindered or brushed over as it was before, now it is clear and vocalized just when, what, and how people roll in the hay. If for some reason you get tired of all your pillaging and promiscuity, then you can head down to the pub, buy a few pints, and watch as your screen blurs and your speech shows just how much of a scallywag you are. Just to prove how true this all is, the summary released by the ESRB is below:
This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a pirate looking to amass a fortune in the 17th century. As players explore open-world environments, they interact with pirates, travel between ports, and engage in combat against the Royal Navy and Spanish Colonies. Players can also engage in swordfights with armed soldiers on ground; players can also employ stealth kills using various weapons (e.g., concealed blades, blow guns) to incapacitate enemy soldiers. Some sequences depict pistol shots to the head and characters getting impaled. Large blood splashes appear when enemies are injured, and blood is sometimes depicted around corpses. During the course of the game, the dialogue references sexual material (e.g., “when you catch a dose from a whore and must treat it with quicksilver” and “they come here to sell their slaves. . .but they stir up trouble and violate our women”). Players ‘ character can purchase and consume alcohol at taverns, resulting in screen-distortion effects; one prolonged sequence depicts a drunken character having hallucinations. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “c*nt” are heard in the dialogue.
It seems that the newest installment for the Assassin’s Creed series will be taking a dive into controversy later this year when it releases on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 29th. As for the PS4 version, it will be one of the launch titles on November 15th, and the Xbox One version is expected a week later on November 22nd.
