Mark Gatiss Banks on ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4

Back in July, word broke that Mark Gatiss had been signed for the fourth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” But at the time, no details about Gatiss’ character were released.

However, Winter Is Coming has revealed that Gatiss will play Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos. During “Game of Thrones” Season 3, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) said that the kingdom was heavily in debt to his father, Tywin (Charles Dance) and the Iron Bank of Braavos. Tyrion also noted that the Iron Bank is infamous for getting back the money it lends, even to the point of funding the kingdom’s enemies if they can’t pay their bills.

Tycho Nestoris first appears in A Dance With Dragons, the fifth novel of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Apparently, Gatiss will be sticking around on the show if the creative team is bringing Tycho into the narrative this early.

In addition to co-creating BBC’s “Sherlock” and writing several episodes of “Doctor Who,” Gatiss is well known for roles in “The League of Gentlemen,” “The Quatermass Experiment,” “Being Human,” “Psychoville,” “Jekyll,” “Being Human,” two guest appearances in “Doctor Who” and a recurring role as Mycroft Holmes on “Sherlock.”

“Game of Thrones” Season 4 will premiere on HBO in Spring 2014.
