‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Gets a Premiere Date on FX

For the last two years, FX has premiered “American Horror Story” in October. This year will be no exception.

FX has announced that the third season, “American Horror Story: Coven” will debut on Wednesday, October 9.

As usual, “American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy and executive producer Tim Minear haven’t revealed much about the new storyline and characters. What we do know is that “Coven” will take place in the present day and in the 1830s while following a coven of witches who escaped from Salem, Massachusetts before relocating to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jessica Lange will star as a witch named Fiona, while Sarah Paulson will play Fiona’s daughter, Cordelia. Joining the cast this season is Kathy Bates as Delphine LaLaurie, a woman who was once Fiona’s best friend before she became her worst enemy. Angela Bassett will also be in the cast as Marie Laveau, a woman rumored to be a voodoo priestess.

Other returning cast members this year include Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O’Hare, Lily Rabe, Alexandra Breckenridge and Frances Conroy. Newcomers include Gabourey Sidibe, Mare Winningham, Emma Roberts, Patti LuPone, Jamie Brewer and Christine Ebersole.

FX has also released a new teaser trailer for “Coven” called “Stakes.”
