David Slade To Direct The Pilot Episode of NBC’s ‘Crossbones’

STARZ’s upcoming pirate series “Black Sails” is getting the bulk of the media’s attention. But NBC is beginning to shore up talent for “Crossbones” as well.

According to Deadline, David Slade has been signed to direct the pilot episode of “Crossbones,” a new drama that stars John Malkovich as the infamous Blackbeard aka Captain Edward Teach as he attempts to maintain control of the island called New Providence in 1715. “Crossbones” was created by Neil Cross (“Luther”) and it has a ten episode commitment from NBC.

Slade has previously directed an episode of “Breaking Bad” and the pilot episodes of “Awake” and “Hannibal” on NBC. Slade also served as an executive producer on “Hannibal” and directed two additional episodes of that series. In features, Slade has directed Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

The remaining cast of “Crossbones” has not yet been announced, but the series is expected to begin production in the fall.  “Crossbones” will premiere in midseason 2014 on NBC.
