Manchester United have rejected Chelsea’s second bid for Wayne Rooney, after the Blues offered £25million plus add-ons for the wantaway striker.
Chelsea’s initial bid of £20million was also turned down by United, and the club are maintaining that they do not want to part with the 27-year-old despite new manager Dabid Moyes making it clear that he sees Rooney as playing second-fiddle to Van Persie this season.
A United spokesman said: “A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected. Our position remains that he is not for sale.”
Rooney will now submit a formal transfer request and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may continue his pursuit for him, after the former Real Madrid manager said that he would pay up to £30million to secure the transition of the striker.
