Exclusive Clip – Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore

We’re all waiting with baited breath to see Iron Man 3, but tomorrow’s release of Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore will certainly hit the spot in the meantime, and might even be your preferred method of thrilling to the adventures of Ol’ Shellhead. Based on the G4 anime series, this feature-length film finds Tony Stark on the run from SHIELD after a firefight he’s in results in the death of innocent bystanders – including his best friend. With Hawkeye and Black Widow in pursuit of him, it looks like Iron Man has to team up with… the Punisher? The real threat involves a creature called the Technovore, which may just wipe out all life on Earth.

Check out this Crave Online exclusive clip from Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore. Pretty snazzy, no?

UPDATE:  I got a chance recently to talk a little to Brandon Auman, screenwriter for Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore, and here’s what he told us.

CRAVE ONLINE: What was your process with this film? Were you simply crafting an English script to translate the original Japanese, or did you craft the story first?

BRANDON AUMAN: I crafted the story first, and it was adapted and scripted by Kengo Kaiji, the guy who adapted Uzumaki and Tokyo Gore Police for the big screen.  I was actually shocked how much of my story he adapted.  Sometimes Japanese scripters are known to throw out American scripts, haha!  And I wouldn’t blame them most of the time.  Some of the story changed, the structure towards the second half changed, but overall I was happy.

For those who haven’t yet seen the Iron Man anime series, what would you say are the biggest differences between this version of Tony Stark and the versions we know from Marvel Comics and the movies?

Well, they are all pretty similar, but it all depends on who is writing him… or acting him, for that matter.  I think the movie version is more flip than the comics version.  But again, it really depends on who is writing him…

You’ve written for Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, which had a Technovore episode. Was Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore inspired by that, and how does this version of the Technovore differ?

Well, the Avengers episode is more of a monster… although this version also gets pretty monstrous.  I don’t want to give away too much though.  This version has the potential to create not only the perfect armor… but new forms of life as well.  Different kinds of life, structures, etc…

What’s your favorite part of the film?

I love the Punisher section the most, but I like all of the surreal stuff towards the end.  It gets very strange… and I love that.  Probably not for everyone though, haha.

As a giant Hulk nerd, I have to ask about your experience writing for Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Who’s officially in the cast of characters for that series? What’s the tone of it – like EMH or more like Ultimate Spider-Man? What’s the premise, exactly? How much fun was it writing for smashy guys?

Hmm, I think I better keep quiet here, as I’m not sure how much info Marvel has put out yet… and I don’t want to open my big mouth.

Aww. Can you tell us about your next Marvel projects?

I co-wrote Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United with Henry Gilroy, the showrunner of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.  Other than that… I’m sworn to secrecy!
