Back in 1993, Tom Cruise starred as a young lawyer named Mitchell McDeere in “The Firm,” a movie adaptation of the John Grisham novel with the same name. And at the conclusion of the film, McDeere and his family went into hiding after helping the federal government bring down a law firm that was used as a front by the Chicago mob..
And now in the present day, McDeere is reemerging with a brand new face, so to speak.
NBC has announced that Josh Lucas will play Mitchell McDeere in the upcoming TV adaptation of “The Firm.” The story will pick up ten years after the film, with McDeere and his family emerging from a difficult decade within the witness protection program. Unfortunately, the McDeere family’s enemies have not forgotten them and new threats to their safety have also developed during the intervening years.
Lucas is primarily known as a film actor, with roles in “American Psycho,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “Poseidon,” “Stealth,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Life As We Know It” and “Hulk.” However, Lucas did co-star in the Australian TV series, “Snowy River: The McGregor Saga” during his early days as an actor in the ’90s.
Later this year, Lucas will also appear alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in “J. Edgar,” Clint Eastwood’s biopic about the life of former FBI Director, J. Edgar Hoover. Lucas will portray aviator Charles Lindbergh in the film.
“The Firm” will air on NBC during the middle of next season, with a full order of 22 episodes. Further casting announcements are expected to come soon.
