Resistance 3’s Box Art Blows Us Away

It’s been a long time since we’ve written an entire article based around the cover art for a game. Frankly, we just haven’t been impressed lately. Every game’s box seems to follow a predetermined blueprint, suffering from the same syndrome as most movie trailers. You know, here’s the part where you put in the shirtless hero; here’s where you have the hero and his love interest kiss. It’s predictable.

Gaming is the same way, only the box is usually graced with an image of our titular hero standing in some iconic pose and flashing his piece, big or small, it matters not. However, Sony and Insomniac Games released the cover art for Resistance 3 yesterday and we were floored. The minimalistic approach is jaw-dropping and, more importantly, refreshing.

To design this effective box art, Sony employed British artist Olly Moss, whom Resistance 3 developer Insomniac worked closely with to “share our vision for the Chimera-occupied 1957, and Joesph Capelli’s journey across the destroyed USA to his destination, New York City.” Moss’ work will play a large role in Resistance 3’s marketing going forward.

In addition to the cover artwork, Sony published some Moss-designed posters for Resistance 3 on the official PS Blog. You can check them out below. You can also click each to posterize them, they deserve it.
