Anora’s Mikey Madison wells up as she delivers Oscars acceptance speech
Oscars 2025 winner Mikey Madison took home the title of Best Actress, winning the coveted award for her incredible work in “Anora.” She was visibly overwhelmed when she took the stage to accept the award. Madison even clarified that she would be getting some assistance from a piece of paper as she was nervous. She described the win to be a surreal experience. The actor beat out Demi Moore from “The Substance,” who many expected would win the Best Actress title.
The star noted that although she grew up in Los Angeles, Hollywood always seemed “so far away.” Thus, winning the award was an incredible experience, which marked her first-ever Oscar title. In her acceptance speech, Mikey Madison thanked everyone who made the win possible, including her family members. She made special mention of her twin brother, thanking him for being her best friend. She also slipped in a joke that he didn’t have a choice.
The actor then took the opportunity to honor the sex worker community. In “Anora,” Madison played the role of a Brooklyn sex worker herself. She noted that she would like to recognize the community in her acceptance speech, assuring that they will always have her support and she will always “be an ally.” She also revealed that meeting sex workers to get a better understanding of her character, Ani, was “one of the highlights” of her filming experience.
Mikey Madison ended her Oscars 2025 acceptance speech by giving a shout-out to the other nominees. She stated, “I’m honored to be recognized alongside all of you. This is a dream come true.” The actor also thanked Sean Baker one last time, exclaiming that all of this was possible thanks to the director. More notably, Baker took home the Best Director and Original Screenplay awards alongside Best Picture and Best Editing for “Anora.”
