In an interview with PEOPLE, Grant revealed that they first met at the reopening of Golden Apple Comics in L.A. At the time, they didn’t get the opportunity to connect. However, Comic-Con gave them a second chance to meet and converse. They eventually bonded over their mutual love of comics and continued to bump into each other throughout that week, before becoming best friends.

Their friendship soon blossomed into love, with Green going on his knees to propose to Grant on New Year’s Eve in 2009. The following year, they officially exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at a private vineyard in Northern California.
