DC Rumor Reveals Waller, Booster Gold & The Authority’s Current Status in DCU

An industry scooper has some theories about why DC Universe projects such as Waller, Booster Gold, and The Authority are spending so long in development. Notably, Waller was supposed to come out in 2024 but was initially delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Booster Gold was announced back in 2023 and was even in talks with a showrunner, but they reportedly left. As for The Authority, it was also announced back in the same year, but per recent reports, other projects have taken precedence over it.

Here’s why DC’s The Authority, Booster Gold and Waller could be taking so long

Scooper @MyTimeToShineH took to X (previously Twitter) to offer what they claim as “clarity” on Waller, Booster Gold, and The Authority — DCU projects that experienced delays. This comes after DCU co-heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran, acknowledged during a recent press event that these are some of the projects from the initial DC slate that encountered complications.

In their post, @MyTimeToShineH first addressed Booster Gold. They claimed that Danny McBride was attached to the project as showrunner but has since left because he was “too busy and has lost interest.” However, the scooper claimed that the project is still in development. Notably, Gunn and Safran didn’t mention the name of the showrunner during the press event, but they did mention that the individual had “ultimately moved on.”

On Waller, @MyTimeToShineH claimed that this series hadn’t been scrapped either, adding, “They have a showrunner, actors attached, and scripts, but James Gunn isn’t satisfied with the scripts, so they’re being rewritten until he is.”

The scooper further claimed that The Authority movie had been on “pause,” as it was regarded as “too risky.” They elaborated, “WB and Zaslav [WB CEO David Zaslav] are hesitant to invest $150M+ in an R-rated film based on a lesser known IP, which is understandable. They’re exploring alternatives, possibly turning it into an animated movie or lowering the budget.”

During the above-mentioned press event, Gunn stated that The Authority has “had a harder time coming along. It hasn’t been much of a priority.” (via Variety)

Now it remains to be seen when release dates will be attached to these projects.
