Rumor: Marvel’s Nova Eyeing Jonathan Bailey for Richard Rider

Reports indicate that Marvel Studios is considering Jonathan Bailey for the role of Richard Rider in its upcoming Nova series. While the studio has yet to confirm any casting decisions, sources suggest Bailey is in the running for the role. As Marvel continues expanding its cosmic universe, speculation about key castings and character debuts remains a major topic among fans.

Industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Jonathan Bailey is being considered for the role of Richard Rider in the NOVA series.” Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Bailey’s casting.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed in July 2024 that a Nova series was in development, stating, However, he did not provide further details about casting or a release date.

Actor Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in DC’s Blue Beetle (2023), has also addressed speculation about his potential involvement in the Nova series. Speaking with The Hashtag Show at the Saturn Awards, Maridueña said playing Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe “would be cool too.” He further added, “S––, I’m ready for whatever work is coming my way, bro. I’ll hit up some push-ups for whoever wants me to do some.”

In an October 2022 interview with ComicBook, Maridueña said, “If that Nova project gets made soon, I’d love to see if there is a Sam Alexander Nova. I would love that,” expressing his interest in playing the character.

Nova, also known as Richard Rider, debuted in The Man Called Nova #1 in 1976. Marv Wolfman and John Buscema created the character as a member of the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force. Rider has played a key role in Marvel’s cosmic storylines, including Annihilation and The Thanos Imperative.
