Rumors regarding Denzel Washington‘s undisclosed role in the upcoming Black Panther 3 seem to be picking up pace, with the latest one suggesting that the veteran actor could take on the mantle of X-Men’s Magneto. The MCU is gradually paving the way for the introduction of mutants, which should bring in new players to portray classic Marvel characters, such as Storm, Jean Grey, and more. From the looks of it, Washington could be the one who brings the part of Erik Lehnsherr to life in the much-awaited Black Panther threequel.
Denzel Washington rumored for Magneto in Black Panther 3 and X-Men
According to @MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel Studios is currently contemplating recruiting Denzel Washington as Magneto.
The renowned internet scooper shared the update in his recent X (formerly Twitter) post. While talking about the role Denzel Washington could possibly play amid the MCU’s transition to the X-Men saga, MyTimeToShineHello stated, “I also hear Denzel Washington could be Magneto. They haven’t decided which character he will play but that is an option.”
Notably, Marvel Studios executive Nate Moore, who is an integral part of the Black Panther 3 team, also hinted at the role Washington could undertake in the project. Shying away from providing any specific details about the actor’s involvement, Moore stated, “If that manifests, which we’re gonna try, I think it will probably be somebody from canon. Who that is, is early days.”
So far, fans have witnessed two live-action depictions of Magneto on the big screen. If Denzel Washington were to secure the part of Magneto in Black Panther 3 or other future MCU projects, he would succeed Michael Fassbender and the evergreen Ian McKellen in the role. Interestingly, Sir Ian McKellen was around 60 years old when he first stepped into the shoes of Magneto in 2000’s X-Men, while Washington is presently 70 years old.
Despite the encouraging updates about the fresh casting of the X-Men, Marvel has yet to officially share a word regarding this.
