When Did Adam Levine Leave The Voice & Why Did He Return?

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine has had an on-and-off relationship with the hit singing competition The Voice. After leaving the show in 2019, Levine is now making a highly anticipated return for Season 27. But what led to his exit, and why has he decided to come back?

Here are the details.

Why did Adam Levine Leave The Voice and when?

Adam Levine left The Voice after Season 16 in May 2019, marking the end of an era for the show.

As one of the original coaches, Levine had been a staple of the series since its debut in 2011. However, after eight-and-a-half years, he felt it was time to step away. In 2019, Levine opened up about his decision, explaining that he wanted to focus on his family. “I was just constantly working for so many years, very lucky, very fortunate, very blessed and all that, but just to be able to stop in this moment to spend time with my new young family and just have the greatest time ever,” he told Ellen DeGeneres back in 2019.

Levine also reflected on his time on the show during an interview with Howard Stern, stating, “I was ready to not be doing it anymore… for a little bit. When it all naturally happened, I was like, ‘OK, this feels right.’”

Here’s why Adam Levine has returned on The Voice in Season 27

After a five-year hiatus, Adam Levine returned to the iconic red chair for The Voice Season 27. His return, announced in June 2024, has sparked excitement among fans. But many are wondering what brought him back.

Levine attributes his comeback to perfect timing and a renewed sense of energy. “The only way to sum it up is that just energetically… the opportunity came at the right moment, and I was really ready,” he told NBC Insider. He added, “It didn’t involve too much deliberation or overthinking. I kind of just felt ready.”

This season, Levine will join a fresh panel of coaches, including John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, and Michael Bublé.
