Marvel Studios’ Blade movie reboot continues to face challenges, with new reports claiming the search for yet another director. The film will reportedly introduce Lilith as the main villain, along with a newly added male antagonist. While Blade was originally set for a 2025 release date, it has since been removed from Marvel’s schedule, leaving its premiere uncertain. Despite the delays, the film remains in development, with Mahershala Ali still set to star as the iconic vampire hunter.
Marvel rumored to find a new director for Blade
In 2024, Marvel Studios’ Blade movie reboot lost its director again. According to The Wrap, “Yann Demange is no longer directing Marvel Studios’ Blade,” making him the second director to depart after Bassam Tariq. The report stated, “The parting with the French-Algerian filmmaker actually happened a while ago and was entirely amicable.” This marked another setback for the long-delayed film.
Along with losing its director, Blade underwent major script rewrites. Marvel brought in veteran writer Eric Pearson, known for Fantastic Four, to take over. He replaced previous writers Michael Green, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Starrbury. The film struggled with creative issues, including early drafts that reportedly sidelined Mahershala Ali’s Blade in favor of other characters.
Now, in 2025, new details have emerged. The latest update from MyTimeToShineHello on X states, “Blade will feature both Lilith and a newly added male villain. The studio is also searching for a director again and is expected to finalize one soon.”As per reports, the script is now set in a modern timeline, with Lilith as the main antagonist.
Announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Blade has faced multiple delays. Initially set for November 7, 2025, Disney removed it from its release schedule in October 2024. An insider told The Wrap, “Getting Blade right is much more important than getting the film out.” With Marvel now focusing on quality over quantity, the film remains in pre-production as the studio searches for a new director.
Despite setbacks, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had reassured fans earlier, stating, “The character will indeed arrive in the MCU.” Mahershala Ali remains attached, and the studio is expected to finalize a director soon. Until then, fans must wait for further updates on the Daywalker’s long-anticipated return.
