Timothée Chalamet talks about gaining weight for his Bob Dylan role
Timothée Chalamet recently spoke to Ailsa Chang, who hosts NPR Magazine’s All Things Considered, about his movie, A Complete Unknown. As Chang and Chalamet discussed things he did to transform into Bob Dylan on-screen, the actor talked about his weight gain.
Chang brought up the topic of Chalamet’s transformation into the legendary singer in the movie. The actor mentioned that he learned to play instruments like guitar, and harmonica and even altered his mannerisms to match Dylan’s and make himself look more the singer, with his process also including gaining weight.
Chalamet told Chang, “He’s one of the great American artists of our time, so I’m sure some of your listeners could speak to it better than I could. That said, I’ve, like I said, I’ve turned over every stone. I did all the work, like you just described, physicality, behavior-wise. But something we haven’t really talked about, I also put on 20 pounds.” Timothée Chalamet addressed that he worked toward his weight gain because he “was thinner than the guy” in reality.
A Complete Unknown debuted in theaters in the United States on December 25, 2024, and has since earned over $74 million at the box office, as per Box Office Mojo. The film has been nominated for numerous awards, including eight Oscars, with nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay, among others.
