Rashida Jones Stepping Down As MSNBC President After 4 Years

MSNBC president Rashida Jones just announced her departure four years after she first assumed the position in early 2021. This has sparked intrigue amongst netizens who wish to learn why she was stepping down from the role. Moreover, fans also wish to know if she has selected a successor. Jones’ MSNBC departure announcement comes mere days before Donald Trump’s return to the White House as US President.

Here is all we have uncovered regarding Rashida Jones’ MSNBC resignation.

Here’s why Rashida Jones is stepping down as MSNBC President

Rashida Jones revealed in a memo sent to MSNBC staff on Tuesday that she was departing the network in search of “new opportunities.”

“I came to this decision over the holidays while reflecting on our remarkable journey and the many successes we’ve achieved together as a team,” Jones wrote in a memo. “This has been the most rewarding chapter of my professional career and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished, which has been made possible only by you.” (via NBC News)

Rebecca Kutler, who joined MSNBC in 2022 following a 20-year stint at CNN, was selected as interim president.

Jones’ departure happens at a rather turbulent time for MSNBC. The network has been suffering from declining ratings since Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory. It has also been dealing with parent company Comcast’s plans to spin it and its sibling channels CNBC, USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Golf Channel, and SYFY off into a separate publicly traded company.

Ever since Rashida Jones, the first Black woman to run a major TV news network, became MSNBC president in 2021, she has made many significant contributions. These contributions include driving the network to record viewership, the creation of a live-event series, and the high-profile recruitment of ex-White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
