Orange County Firefighter Kevin Skinner Passes Away in Laguna Niguel

Kevin Skinner cause of death explained

Kevin Skinner passed away on January 5, 2025, while he was responding to a residential fire at the 29400 block of Pointe Royale, Laguna Nigel. He had been summoned there along with other firefighters at 4:56 a.m.

The social media accounts of Orange County Fire Authority revealed in a statement that Skinner was feeling unwell. They intimated the same with personnel while he was performing a resident search. He was then escorted out to a Paramedic unit, only to collapse. Medical personnel then attempted to save him to no avail.

In a late Sunday morning press release, officials confirmed that Skinner had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Kevin Skinner was 56 years old at the time of his death. He joined the OCFA in July 1999, before which he had served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his family, comprising his wife, three children, Sierra, Kate, and Zac, and a mother, sister, and brother.

Netizens offered their heartfelt condolences to Skinner’s family following his passing. California governor Gavin Newsom and his wife and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom released a statement that read:

“We offer our most heartfelt sympathies to Fire Apparatus Engineer Skinner’s family, loved ones and colleagues as they mourn this painful loss. Jennifer and I honor his bravery and dedication to protecting California communities.”

As the OCFA mentioned, Skinner had a “warm personality” and an “ability to make everyone feel welcome.”

In the wake of Kevin Skinner’s death, The Fallen Firefighter Relief Fund created a GoFundMe page to support Skinner’s wife and three children to raise $300,000. As of Tuesday, $3000 had been raised.
