Lizzo shares an emotional review for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s new fantasy movie, “Wicked,” which premiered earlier this month. First, the singer posted a before-and-after of them watching the film in a theater in a TikTok video. She says in the clip, “This is me before Wicked,” smiling adorably at the camera.
Afterward, she appears speechless and completely astounded. “I don’t want nobody to talk to me for the next 24 business hours,” she says almost tearing up. The 36-year-old then drops a lengthy review in another video and posts a Thanksgiving tribute to the movie in a third.
Lizzo grows emotional while giving ‘Wicked’ review
Lizzo shares a lengthy “Wicked” review on TikTok, growing exceedingly emotional with every passing second of the clip. She explains why she made another video following her before-after post, claiming, “There aren’t words to describe” her feelings after watching the movie. The singer notes that the fantasy film “tugs at your strings and pricks at your eyeballs” because of its “emotional depth.” Further praising the actors, she adds that they are all “so deeply ingrained into their characters,” causing viewers to “care” and form connections with them that are beyond the screen.
Later, Lizzo commends Ariana Grande’s performance of the song “Popular” in the film. “I had full body chills the whole time,” says the 36-year-old. She also describes Grande’s character, Glinda, as “chef’s kiss,” claiming she took a journey to Oz and “did not wanna come back” from there. The Yitty co-creator had moist eyes the entire time she described the relationship between Glinda and Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba. Furthermore, she applauds Erivo’s performance in handling her character “with so much care.”
In the review video, Lizzo mentions brief instances from the “Wicked” movie while not giving away too much. She then specifically opines about the scene when Elphaba sheds tears. “[It was] years of not belonging, years of being bullied, years of being rejected,” she says wiping away her own tears. She also emphasizes how the scene wasn’t her “vulnerability and openness” but “fear.” Lastly, the singer praises Jonathan Bailey’s footwork, “Baby, them feet.”
Moreover, Lizzo compliments other details about the film, such as the costumes, makeup, the set design, and the incredible sound mixing. Concluding the video, she says, “Oh my god! Jeff Goldblum and Michelle [Yeoh]. Yeah!,” yelling at viewers to “go watch Wicked” and apologizes for it.
