The Penguin’s Finale May Have Revealed The Batman 2’s Villain

The final episode of The Penguin has seemingly teased a major villain in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman Part 2. The spin-off series recently concluded its eight-episode run, completing its titular character’s ascension to the summit of Gotham’s crime scene. In the build-up to his ultimate plan, Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobb is seen interacting with Councilman Sebastian Hady. During that sequence, a particular pattern can be noticed in the courthouse that resembles classic Batman antagonists, the Court of Owls.

Why the Court of Owls could be The Batman Part 2’s villains

According to speculations, the said scene apparently intends to suggest the introduction of the Court of Owls in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.

In The Penguin Episode 8, Colin Farrell’s character seeks the help of a corrupt councilman, Sebastian Hady, to defeat Sofia. The duo ultimately conduct a meet-up at Gotham City’s courthouse. There, the Penguin informs Hady of his plan to frame Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone for Crown Point’s explosion. The scene ends with the scheming duo coming to an agreement.

The camera then pans to the walls of the establishment, highlighting owl-shaped windows in the background. Fans have theorized that this snippet could be an indication of the Court of Owls appearing as the villain in Batman 2. Introduced in 2011, the covert organization comprises the most affluent clans of Gotham, who have secretly controlled the city since its inception.

The Court of Owls also shares a personal connection with Batman in the comics. Moreover, the iniquitous group’s persona perfectly complements the tone of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. Besides, the filmmaker has himself confirmed that the much-awaited sequel will thoroughly explore the “deeper corruption” in Gotham. As such, the Court of Owls stands out as the ideal candidate to play the villain in The Batman 2.

The Batman Part 2 is currently slated to hit the big screens on October 2, 2026.
