Jimmy Kimmel Fact-Checks Donald Trump’s Hurricane Season Error

In the new “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” segment, the host did not hold back from fact-checking Donald Trump‘s factual error about the hurricane season. Earlier this week, the Republican presidential nominee spoke during the Remembrance Event at Trump National Doral Miami. During his speech, Trump talked about Hurricane Milton, which has hit the state of Florida. Not only that, the former president criticized the Biden administration’s response to the storms during a Q&A.

As shown in a clip during the segment, Trump said during the Remembrance Event speech, “I would like to tell you that there’s a very violent hurricane that’s coming down the line.” He continued, “It’s a Category 5, which is something that I’ve never heard — a Category 5 actually coming on to land, but it looks like it’s going to.”

Kimmel was surprised and continued to question Trump’s statement about “never hearing” about it after the video was shown. He wondered, “Really? You never heard of a Category 5 coming on to land? This is interesting because I was under the impression that you had.” The host alluded to previous natural disasters in the country, showing several instances when the former president spoke about Category 5 storms — Hurricane Michael, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Laura, and Hurricane Dorian.

Throughout the multiple clips, Donald Trump repeatedly said he “never heard” of a Category 5 hurricane, or if it even “existed.” Kimmel quipped, “You know he did get his meteorology degree from Trump University.” The host then stated there was a Category 5 hurricane in Florida while Trump was the president, but “he was probably busy with Kanye during that one.”

Jimmy Kimmel spots Trump’s factual error in Laura Ingraham interview

Jimmy Kimmel then brought up Trump’s Fox News Q&A with Laura Ingraham during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The TV host said, “He again showed that he is always, always, always wrong.” The segment continued to showcase a “The Ingraham Angle” clip where Trump stated, “That was a horrific storm, much worse.” The former president continued, “You know it’s late in the season, you wouldn’t think a thing like that could happen.” However, this is where Trump went wrong.

Kimmel corrected the Republican presidential candidate, “Yeah, no, it’s not late in the season. Hurricane season goes until the end of November.” The talk show host continued to share that Donald Trump said this about Hurricane Helene as well. Kimmel stated, “The guy lives in Florida — he doesn’t know when hurricanes happen. It doesn’t matter when they happen, what matters is why they happen.” He added, “The answer to why is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Only Donald Trump sees a natural disaster coming and goes, ‘Who can I blame for this?'”

The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” segment then showed a clip from the episode of “The Ingraham Angle.” Trump said, “They don’t have the people — they’re not doing — it’s a bad, it’s a very bad thing.” After Ingraham asked the former president how would he handle the situation, Trump confidently answered, “I’d have a tremendous team of people here, they don’t have any people.”

When Ingraham shared that Biden said the response has been “robust” and “well-coordinated,” Trump stated, “Nobody says that. He doesn’t know what ‘robust’ is.” The Republican presidential candidate remarked that Biden and Harris “should be there.” He added, “She [Harris] shouldn’t be at fundraisers.” Ingraham countered the statement by saying the vice president was at the location for three hours. However, Trump continued to claim that the Biden Administration’s response has been “horrific.”

The 2024 US elections are now less than a month away as the candidates continue to campaign.
