On September 16, JD Vance disclosed what Donald Trump told him minutes after he experienced a second assassination attempt. The Republican presidential nominee was rushed to safety on Sunday after the Secret Service agents spotted the gunman sticking his rifle through the shrubbery that lines the course, reported BBC. This incident unfolded at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
As per The New York Post, the Republican VP nominee recalled that he was at home in Cincinnati with his children when he received the call. Vance revealed that minutes after Donald Trump endured a second assassination attempt, the former president called him. Recounting Trump’s first statement in the call, Vance shared, “He says, ‘JD, you’re not going to believe this, but they tried to do it again.'”
At first, JD Vance thought that the former president was joking, so he said, “No, you’re joshing me. But, what’s going on here sir?” Trump informed him how the Secret Service spotted the gunman, he further revealed. Moreover, hearing Trump’s account of the incident, Vance expressed that he is “glad” about the presidential nominee’s safety.
However, Vance informed that his running mate was “pissed off” about not being able to finish his birdie putt. The VP nominee noted that their call happened 10 minutes after the incident. The gunman, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was hit with federal gun charges on Monday morning. This incident comes two months after Trump survived his first assassination attempt at a campaign event in Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden and current presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris also condemned the attack. They released their respective statements on X (formerly Twitter), expressing relief for Trump’s safety and commending Secret Service agents’ swift action.
